Question Up-tuned 5 string tension too great?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, after doing some searching and getting lost even after refining the search choices a million times, i gotsta ask for some help . I play in a metal band (http://www.myspace.com/functioncease) in standard C tuning (C-G-C-F) on a laky 55-01. Up till now I've been tuning my DR highbeam medium gauge's down, E to C, A to G etc. and leaving the B for dissonant open semitone stuff Anyway, just recently I was thinking of getting a light gauge set of 5 string lowriders and tuning everything up from B (B-C, E-G, A-C, D-F) would this work? Or will the tension be too strong for my poor maple neck even with the light gauge? Cheers if anyone answers, you can delete this if its a painfully overasked question Mr Moderator.
Cheers Rayle XoX

why dont you keep it tuned it 4th as per standard, i. a susal 5 string would be BEADG make it CFA#D#G#

Initially when I joined The band I intended to stay in standard, but all the riffs the guitar guys write contain a flurry of open stringed notes it was far easier to just tune the same, im not sure why they pick that tuning, probably because some guitar guy they adore uses that tuning too? I can't be bothered asking them. but yeah it kinda has to be drop C otherwise i'll kill myself. Cheers for the Reply.

finding the lightest 5 set of rounds would be a good start. I did this too for my last band.

I've done this with .40,.60,.75,.95, and 1.20 or 1.15....don't remember which but it worked just fine.
