Are Used Strings Worth Anything?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am an obsessive string changer (every month on my main gigging bass) and since I have about 10 basses, I have gone through a lot of strings.

Anyways, I keep these nearly new strings and have approx 25 sets of top quality strings. They are mostly EB Regular Slinkies but also a few GHS Flea Sigs, Rotosounds, etc. There are likely 6 or 7 B strings from my 5ers and most strings were on my Jazz Style Sadowskys, EBMM SR or Fender Ps.

I am not trying to sell them here (I am a supporting member in any case) but just curious if there is actually a market for this kind of thing.

The strings are all very usable. I just like the sound of fresh strings.

Try Ebay, or the TB classifieds. You might be surprised how many flats players like old strings. You wouldn't get much, but for used flats you might turn a few bucks.

OTOH, if they're used rounds I doubt there would be much of a market unless someone wanted to replace a broken one.

Good idea. I think I will eBay the whole lot of 'em with a $0 reserve and see what happens.

Of course shipping will be $150.

every month isnt bad... there was a time I had to change every week...

you can always boil your strings and try to re-use them...

If I had the money it'd probably every week, wish I was a guitarist sometimes with their 1/4 price strings...

I almost forgot, but I have a draw full of old strings, probably best to get everything recycled. Surprised manufactures aren't all over that kinda thing, trying to get us to get their strings back to them some how, would save them alot of money and they could play the whole green card.

I've had some success boiling strings before, but there does seem to be a point where the metal fatigues really kicked in, and their so dead that it doesn't really do anything.

I hang old strings from my wife's cats 3-level playhouse. He loves to bang them around and such.

String changing night is always exciting for him.

my bill is in the mail

two minutes in denatured alcohol (from any hardware store) and they sound like brand new...repeat until they get flat spotted from the frets, then take em off and throw them away/make braided belts/donate to needy assassins to strangle people with
