Using flats with a sansamp??

I'm going to try out flats again and I'm curious how they sound with the sansamp driver. I can't tell if they'd sound good with that overdriven tube amp sound or not.

I've got a set on order and I'm anxious to try them with my VT Bass. To each his own, but I bet they're going to sound killer. In the past my problems with flatwounds haven't been their sound, but that I've never been really satisfied with their low B strings.

My Fender VS '62 Precision with a set of Lakland Joe Osborn flats (at least four years old now) sounds great through the SansAmp BDDI. I don't set it for any real overdrive, but it's another voice for me.

I use flats on my P with a VT Bass and it sounds awesome. Really warm and thick tone.

Here are some examples I did.

All except the title track and "Hunter's Moon" (no bass guitar tracks), and "What Do We Do Now" (G&L fretless) done with a P bass > flats >SBDDI.

I use a SansAmp BDDI and a Hofner 500/1 V62 strung with Pyramid Gold flats daily - the tone is fat and I can dial in a near perfect McCartney Beatles-era tone. I actually prefer the tone I'm getting with the BDDI in use and use it as a preamp, bypassing the preamp section on my 800RB. I'm able to dial in exactly what I'm looking for tonally and can't wait to try it with a Skyline Bob Glaub that I just picked up from a fellow TBer, which is strung with a set of LaBellas.

The SansAmp route doesn't work for everyone as we all have our own concepts of ideal tone, so YMMV.

I can get a fair large fat sound with shaving off the edges.

If all is done correctly, you should sound like Steve Harris
