Question Using a guitar string for bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I was looking for a 0.35 G and 0.55 D to match with an 0.80 A and 100 E. I cant find a bass set with those measures or single strings in this part of the world.
I also got a GHS guitar string set with a 0.36 (A)and 0.50 (E). So i was wondering if i can use that strings for a bass as a G and D, or at last the 0.36.
Some one tryed to do it before?

i have a bass set up with .20, .30, .50, .80
and get strings direct from ken smith.
i like the burner piccolo strings in nickel but they also can do stainless.
you could contact direct to see if they would ship to you, it could be worth it on a reasonably sized order.

If they're long enough to wind onto the tuner, they'll work. Detach a ball-end from an old bass string and thread it onto the guitar string, slide it against the guitar ball-end, then the string will have the correct size ball-end. However guitar strings may have thinner cores since they are designed for lower tension, so they might break at bass tension.

I use guitar plain steel strings on my basses.

How about buying some single strings by mail-order?

Scale length may be an issue. I'd recommend Circle K strings, they have all manner of gauges.
