Victor Bailey Acoustic

Sign in to disble this ad
hi Guys - got a new Victor Bailey acoustic, beautiful bass, great potential for tine, but the factory supplied phosphor bronze strings are a bit noisy (twangy), especially when played unplugged, for me.
What do you use on your ABG?
Thanks for recommendations guys!

Congrats on a great bass. I hope you have many years enjoyment from her!
I quit using phosphor strings a few years back for the same reason that you gave. Too much finger noise and twang for me as well. In my experimentation I have settled on flatwound strings and tapewounds as the best logical choices. For tapewounds I would suggest Fender or Labella. I haven't tried the new GHS or the Rotosounds, but they are probably every bit as good.
Both my Regal "Dobro" bass and my Carvin AC40 fretless are wearing GHS Prcision Flatwounds, and their sound is much improved for it. More bottom end as well. Best of luck for whichever direction you go. Oh yes, I use the .40-.95 lights.

I have a GB-41, haven't tried them yet, but I've been told Elixir's are the way to go.
