I have La Bella tapes on my fretless (Stingray 5) and Chromes on my VM fretted Jazz. My experience with Fender flats was not pretty. Just waaaay too much tension for my personal taste. I like to feel the strings "give" a little bit, y'know?

The Fenders sounded great (nice vintage thump), but I couldn't get past the tension thing. I'd suggest giving either the Chromes or TI flats (the lowest tension flat out there) a try.

Good luck!

I had a set of D'addario Chrome flats on my VM fretless. They sounded ok, and the tension was tolerable, but I am much happier with Elixer rounds. Maybe I am not the flatwound fretless kind of guy as I like the sizzle of rounds against the fretboard.

Fender 9050Ls may be fine. I've got Fender 9050MLs on my Squier VM Fretless Jazz and for my taste I think it's too much tension. I just got a set of TI flats that I'm going to put on either later tonight or tomorrow and see if I like those better. But the light guage Fenders may be fine, like a said, so try them and if they're not what you like you can always try something else.

I have Chromes on mine. They sound fantastic. I think with the ebanol fretboard, and it's inherent hardness, the Chromes "sing" much like a roundwoud, but give a fatter low end. No muddy, or wooly loss of definition here.
