My experience with Fender flats was not pretty. Just waaaay too much tension for my personal taste. I like to feel the strings "give" a little bit, y'know?
The Fenders sounded great (nice vintage thump), but I couldn't get past the tension thing. I'd suggest giving either the Chromes or TI flats (the lowest tension flat out there) a try.
Good luck!

They sounded ok, and the tension was tolerable, but I am much happier with Elixer rounds. Maybe I am not the flatwound fretless kind of guy as I like the sizzle of rounds against the fretboard.

Fender 9050Ls may be fine. I've got Fender 9050MLs on my Squier VM Fretless Jazz and for my taste I think it's too much tension. I just got a set of TI flats that I'm going to put on either later tonight or tomorrow and see if I like those better. But the light guage Fenders may be fine, like a said, so try them and if they're not what you like you can always try something else. |
