Viola Bass Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I have become a huge fan of the viola bass. I have two Douglas and am in the process of buying a Hofer, once I sell my Ibanez bass. I'm experiementing with strings trying to find the upright bass sound, but with just a 'tinge' of sustain. I currently have D'Addario flats on them. Anyone who plays the viola and would like to weigh in with opinions on what brand of string they would use to get the sound I'm trying to emulate, please weigh in.

I had better luck getting an upright-ish sound with Labella Tapewounds compared to D'Addario Chromes on "Beatle" style basses.

Use La Bella Deep Talkin', they have a set just for Hofner "Beatle" bass. They are stainless flatwound, and sound fantastic with my Epiphone Viola.

Best sound - PYRAMIDS GOLD
Best feel - Thomastik Infield flats
Best price - D'Addario Chromes

... I never tried La Bella's...
