Been using .045-100 D'addarios for 10 years. Before that I used .040-.095, but I felt I should man up for a while because my chops got mushy. I got a 79 Precision recently, and it came with GHS Boomers .040-.095. I instantly changed them once I got it home and put the heavier strings on. Then I thought maybe I should give the light gauge strings a try again. Now I like them again, and I'm going to put them on all my basses.
Unfortunately, I've got 6 sets of the heavier strings left, so now I have to use them up before I can buy new ones. It's not a question of money. It's a question of psychosis. For the first 12 years of my adult life, I was dirt poor and owned only one good bass all those years, and once I discovered that I was poor by choice, I made some changes in my life and now I'm still not rich but I'm on my way to having a comfortable retirement. But I'm still cheap when it comes to equipment (9 basses, all but two cost less than $1000, most cost $300 or less, and a $1500 upright). The idea of throwing out 6 sets of strings kills me, and the only thing that kills me more is selling strings I just bought for half price. So I guess I'll just use them up, although instead of using a set for 6 months, I'll just use them for 5 months.
Moral of the story: When you're bedridden with the flu, stay away from the laptop before you inflict your boring pointless stories on everyone.
