Walmart and GHS Strings

A sad partnership.

I was in Walmart the other day with a friend who was cd shopping.

On my way out the accursed gates, I noticed a display of instrument strings.

I then fixated on the GHS "Bassics".

They were $12.50 or so; worth buying simply to do a tone test.

Slapped them onto my Ibanez Iceman.

Compared to the stock Elixers (I've had the Iceman for a week or two) they lacked any sort of punch or zing or defined lows.

I'm used to playing DR, Rotosounds, and my latest favorite, Hartke XL Nickels, so take this next statement in that context:

These GHS Bassics bite into your fingers like none other.

They are rough feeling and honestly annoy the hell out of me.

I never thought I'd say this, but I actually found a string worse (for me) than Elixers.

But for $12, no real loss. =D

Plus, its walmart, so i wasn't expecting much.

Yeah, our local Super WalMart stocks GHS strings along side their less than poo First Act geetars.

I had some GHS flats for a short period of time. Absolutely hated the feel, decided I wouldn't be trying anymore of their products till I could afford to waste money.

Can't say the same for all GHS products so far. I used boomers for about a year in the beginning. Liked them plenty and had to use them in an emergency. Still not bad. I'd like to compare the Bassics to them pretty soon.
