Wanted: Strings who scream 'funk' and growl like a lion.

I'm searching for a rumbling growl, with lots of bite, but not a sharp treble. With a funky punch and a warm bottom.

I have a Yamaha BB3000 and it is strung with DR nickel .105 Lo-riders right now. They are nice, but not good enough yet. I've also tried the steel version, GHS boomers and Thomastik Infeld superalloys. But none of these had enough of that sweet low end the DR's have.

The DR's are, however, sounding too 'woody' now. The E string is sounding dead and always sounded a bit dead since the beginning. It was too much of a dry wooden tone, without the lovely warmth.

Think of: Tony Kanal at the No Doubt live DVD.
Any options?

DR Fat Beams should end your search. The highs are less harsh and have good bottom IMO.

Rotosounds have a lion on the package. Maybe that's what you need.

Seriously, they are pretty funky/growly, but don't last long. I'm trying some DRs next.

I dunno... Rotos tend to have some tenacious treble, especially the steels. I do like the RS66LDN pure nickel Rotos. Right now they're fresh so they sound really crispy, but I can't wait for them to mellow out because I'll bet they'll sound the way I want them to once they're half dead.

Really brings out the raw growl of my Warwick, though. I've tried many strings, and these really complement my bass' inherent mojo-voice.

Rotos can be a love it/hate it string, but I think people who hated the steel Rotos may at least kinda like the nickel Rotos.
