Warmest rounds youve played

Sign in to disble this ad
Im thinking of going back to rounds to get the sound Im after right now. I need a bit more clarity and bite than Im getting with my flats. Im playing a StingRay 4 and StingRay 5. I am a fan of low mids, but not high mids as much.

Im thinking of trying TI SuperAlloys, as Ive heard they are a warm sounding roundwound string.

Whats the warmest roundwound youve played.

TI jazz rounds - I've just put some on and even with a bit of initial brightness they are very very warm. they've got many of the same characteristics as the jazz flats.

Thanks, but I tried TI Jazz wounds and did not like the tension of them.

Sadowsky Blue Nickels or Carvin 5511s or Fender 7250s after they break in.

I like the DR Sunbeams. I don't have much to compare them to, but they aren't harsh at all and keep a good sound for a long time. The set I have on right now is 8 months old and still going strong. I also prefer their feel over D'Addarios

I'm currently in the same boat as you. I'm looking for really warm, fat, and old-school sounding nickel rounds. Smooth feel and moderate tension would be nice as well. The Fender 7250s look like a great string for this purpose.

Cool Warm Round Wounds

I recently bought a '64 Custom Shop Jazz Relic and it came with Fender Super Bass strings which I was going to change out to warmer strings or even flat wounds but these ended up sounding so good, I'm leaving them on. Very nice, warm sounding strings!

The new Dunlop nickels are great....low price too. Cheap enough to not worry about if you don't like em.....$16 or $18 I think.
D'Addario nickels are very warm...I use them and really like them.

Same here. I used Chromes on my p-bass for a while which are the brightest flat I have played, but am now using Sunbeams which are probably the warmest rounds I have played.

I like pressurewounds for that in-between tone. I've always like the tone more than groundwounds and they feel a lot better on the fingers. I usually go for the GHS, but Roto and a few other brands offer them.

I forgot to mention that Fender 7150s are warmest and mellowest rounds I have ever played. But, they are too quiet for me.

La Bella

I used Fender on my Fender Jazz Geddy Lee Model, but I don´t like that "bite".

I´m using a Labella 0.45 La Bella Hard Rock Steel.
I like the tension, smoothness and price.
I don´t think it´s too much bright.

Fender 7150 Pure Nickels.
You may consider GHS Pressurewounds, which are compressed rounds, and have a lovely warm and dark sound.

DR Sunbeams seem a bit warmer than most other roundwounds... personally i prefer a brighter sound, so I switched to Daddarios for a bit and currently endorse SIT's... but if you're looking for warmth, Sunbeams are the way to go. The top end feels ever so slightly muted, and they have a very warm/rich low-mid presence (I think, i'm not the best at describing tones so... all IMHO, YMMV).
