Warwick, Brass, Stainless Steels

I've had my used Warwick Standard Corvette 4 string for 2 years now and I'm wondering what the life expectancy is for its frets. Unlike most basses I've seen, Warwick is unique in having brass frets.

I just got a pair of Rotosound SwingBass '66 and they sound amazing. Like other have said, they're a bit sticky but my fingers can hack it.

I'm wondering though, what is the average life expectancy of your frets and how do you know when they are 'bad?' (aside from having one worn to the fretboard)

As for playing style, I am average and I'm not too hard on my guitar. I do like to slap every now and then but it's sporadic and short lived

Brass is soft metal, should I be concerned about having too much steel?

Thanks

The frets on your warwick are called "Brass Bell" frets. It's a combination of brass and other metals (I forget what the actual mixture is now...) but it's similar to what brass bells are made of. It is extremely durable and will last for many, many, many years!

In all honesty, when the frets on that bass do wear out it should be time to retire it! The wood will be falling apart before the frets wear out.

I've had my Thumb 6 for 6 years now and there is no wear at all.

All the best,

Gerry

those warwick "bell brass" (not brass bell) frets are very durable. Then again, Roto 66s are very destructive. it's kind of a tradeoff.
