Warwick thumb, nickel or steel strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a Warwick thumb BO 5string, and I love it. But it seems to prefer steel strings, I mean in my opinion it sounds way better with steel strings. I used to play DR steel strings but switched to nickel a couple years ago and grown to really love them (mostly because the feel). Is there any way around this, or do I just learn to play steels that seem like they just stick to my fingers again? Has anyone else had this dilemma?

Try DR sunbeams or neons. Very nice nickel strings with sound qaulity equal to my fave steel strings (rotosound swing66). You might also try Ernie Ball & GHS nickel strings. Never been a fan of daddario strings myself tone wise, so my fave nickels may not be the sound your after.

I play a Warwick Corvette 5 string, I use Rotosound RS665LD Roundwound 5-String Bass Strings and they sound great. Gauges 45-65-80-105-130. Stainless steel roundwounds

You stated that it sounds better with steel strings and that's what you used to play so you should probably go with steel. I use steel on all my basses. If find them to be brighter and cut through the mix better.
