Warwick Users! What is your favorite string to use? Post here:

Well guys, I bought myself a Warwick 6 string recently and I am looking for a good set of strings for it. I realize that the strings need to be tapered for the B string. Possibly for the E?

Anyway, i'm looking for a good set of nickel strings to use. What would you Warwick users suggest?

You can crimp any non tapered B string to fit the tail piece,or file the slot slightly to accomodate them. It's only the B,the E fits fine. There's also a tail piece sold by Warwick to accomodate all non tapered B strings but that's really not necessary.Plenty of Warwick owners just file or crimp,& use the strings they like, rather than stick strictly to tapereds.
I think I answered you in the Warwick club thread & suggested yellow labels. They're nice nickels.I've used them on my SS2 & they sound great.

I use Ken Smith Burners on all of my fretted basses, including a Streamer Jazzman 5 and Corvette Proline 5.

The Ken Smith Burners are nickel plated, available with tapered B strings, and sound terrific, in my opinion.

I've got both 'wicks strung up with Skip's Circle K strings right now. For me, the best all-around string hands down.

thanks for all of the responses guys!

do you just crimp it with some needle nose? this doesn't hurt the string?

I'd file the bridge(and have on a couple of 5 & 6 string Warwicks), then you can go tapered or regular. I like Ken Smith Rock Masters on Warwick basses.

I use Sadowsky's who have a tapered B available, but they are stainless....I'm happy with them. I also have Rotosound 77's on my ole Dean EAB that I actually like just fine as well. The Sadowskys are on the Warwick though.

The E is not tapered and black labels are medium+ gauge I'd say. The B is .135 for example.

Sorry, no help on the nickels.

Get yourself a decent set of needle files(a set will cost just a bit more than the one you need but you'll likely use the others eventually too)- it won't take much filing to allow the string slip in nicely. Put some painter's tape on the bass' body to protect it while filing, also to keep the filings out of nooks & crannies.

Edit: Keep in mind it's the tailpiece you need to file(at least that was the case w/my basses), not the bridge. You'll need to adjust the bridge when going from tapered to non-tapered string(s).

You can order replacement bridge components direct from Warwick if you don't fancy damaging your existing tailpiece and saddle.

I use DR HiBeams on my 5 string Corvette, and I also had to file down the bridge - I was really worried about doing this but it's very easy and takes about 10 minutes, you don't need to file too much off, just enough for the string to slot in, using a small file - then you're free to use whatever strings you like.

I really like DR Lo-Riders on my Vette, I have the SS ones though and am thinking about switching to the nickels. Looking for a warmer, fatter sound without all that high end zing, but while keeping the heavy growly sound of lo-rider strings that compliments the Warwick so well. I'm hoping the nickels will have a sweeter top end and won't take so long to break in.

I use the Warwick Black Label mediums (.135), but would love to give those Ken Smiths a whirl or switch back to DRs.

Have you tried nickel lo-riders on them?

No I haven't. But only because the stainless sound so damn good. No need to explore any further. This is the tone I am looking for. I have Barts with a Bart pre-amp in my FNA Jazzman 5 string and the punch and attack on that bass is just exceptional.

I´m not a Warwick owner, i am a long-time Spector user but my favourite strings are Warwick nickels...does that mean i can post here?

Someday i´ll join your Warwick-toting bunch...hopefully with a Streamer Stage II fiver!
