Webstrings Detroit Flats... Any Users?
Looking for info about these strings, i cant find anything at all.
Need some tb experiences.
The price is great, shipping was fast, and when a string once broke at the ball, a reply to email (and couple questions) was quick, along with replacement string.
I like the nps rounds- good mids with great bottom and plenty on the top.
Also, the s/s flats have a lot more bottom (with definition) than Chromes (on the basses I've tried them on), and smooth tonal transition from one string to the other, using 5 string sets.
Best B I've tried.
Of course, I always measure, then crimp, then cut, then after initial tuning, slacken to straighten any twist, re-tune, then set the witness points and re-tune again (with all strings, 'specially flats and round-cores).
Super smooth, and at their price, certainly worth a try.
I'd go with GHS Precision flats. They're very smooth & deliver the vintage flats tone. You can also get some bite ( for flats! ) when needed.
Never liked ghs flats.
Maybe after they have aged and broken in but i found them to be unbalanced tone wise and and very twangy on the D and G.
There has to be more of you.
I've never tried Webstrings Detroit flats. You'd be out less than $20 to try them so give a set a try!
Which gauge GHS set did you try? I find their flats to be very well balanced.
Just recently my brother got a custom set of 45-63-80-95 that he didnt like and then asked me if i wanted them.
But i didnt like them either.
Everyone claims they are dark and they are.... on the E and A but not on D and G.
I used to like Yoo Hoo but now I drink organic chocolate milk or soy milk instead. Less sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
Yeah kinda weird nobody is chomping at the bit to praise these strings. Another option for a good flatwound string interests me as well.
Here we go.
Love GHS flats, but agree they take a while to mellow out properly. No experience with Webstrings flats, but reviews I've heard have been generally positive.
I tried the detroit flats a few years ago. Didn't like them. They seemed dull, flat, lifeless. I changed them pretty quickly.
just my 2 cents
But, compared to which other flats?
Or compared to round-wounds?
I'm not a fan of rounds at all. I've used/am using GHS precision flats, D'A Chromes and LaBella deep talkin' flats.
edit - forgot Fender flats
