Well balanced, medium (to soft) tensioned strings ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for well balanced, medium (to soft) tensioned strings (to a standard tuned 4str.bass but even strings for tuning D G C F)

i.e Well ballanced in both sound/output and feel.

I dont like SS (to raw and to "trebly") so str. in the nickle area comes first in my book.

Most sets that I've tested has a much tighter feel to D str. than the rest (E A G) irritating IMO

I've tested regular TI Jazz and TI Flats and I really liked the sound and feel in both sets but for some basses they're so soft so they couldn't "bow" the neck for relief. (pitty :-(

Please guide me in the (str.) Jungle

I just use the D'Addario tension guide to get me in the ballpark with any brand/type, and then usually buy singles to build my own sets of various tunings and tensions.

Sunbeams are wonderful strings. For what you want, highly recommended! Last pretty long too.

i recommend d'addario XL nickel in the following gauges:

100-75-55-40. seriously, that feels totally balanced and is quite soft. you could probably take a 95 E.

what is stiff in the stock d'addario sets are A/D strings. crazy gauge mixes they do there if you ask me.
