I put a brand new set of Rotosound Swingbass 66 on my Blazer the other day, all was well... I came back to play the bass about an hour later and the A string was dead
It sounded like it had been on the bass for a few months, the tone was gone.
So I emailed Rotosound, asking if they could send me a replacement, and got a reply straight away from Jason Howe. He was extremely apologetic and they sent me a complete replacement set straight away - no asking for proof of purchase, sending back the dead string, nothing.
Now that's how it's done. Bravo Rotosound.

They do tend to deaden quite quickly I suppose, but I have never noticed the E being any worse than the others. I too like to change them about once a month. I could really do with an endorsement...

If you want longevity, find another brand of string. |

What people are actually referring to is they lose their initial brightness quickly, just as most strings do. But because the Rotos sound so good in the first place, it is more noticeable.
Which I agree isn't ideal, and you will probably have a different tone from your bass if you play a gig one week after the first one. But after that initial brightness has gone they are still a fine sounding string (just not the same), and they will last like this for and extremely long time before being properly dead. I have had a set on my Jazz bass which I have used every day since around 5 months ago and they still sound good, with no dull thud yet. I actually prefer the sound of broken in Rotos to most other strings (Highbeams included

I stopped using Rotosound many years ago when I was getting a dead string in most sets. Back then, if you wiped the new strings with a cloth when you put them on, they would leave a big black mark.
Despite that, I'm usually of the opinion that you should always give something a second chance, but unfortunately I've had dealings with Jason Howe since then. You must have caught him on a good day, or perhaps the recession is biting, and he's finally resorting to providing something approaching reasonable service. It would be better if his strings weren't dead in the first place, of course... |

I emailed them telling them I was unhappy because I had a set where the e string was just dead. He mailed me another set no questions asked. Very impressed. Was not Jason - can't remember who.
I also do not think RS goes dead quickly. I do think the initial brightness goes away quickly, but after those first few days, they settle in nicely and stay that way for a while. I can usually get 6-12 mos out of a set. |

| | | | I've never had a problem with my Rotosound 66 Swing Bass strings that I put on my Jazz Bass (Accidentally. I was gonna put on flatwounds, but I switched them up) but they are very bright and I love them. Anyways, good to know that they really care about the costumers and stuff like that.

| | | | Rotosound swing bass If you want to retain the brightness with Rotosound roundwounds, if you de-tune the strings when you put your bass away you'll find they sound a lot brighter when you re-tune them and start to play. It doesn't take long for them to get their snap back - possibly an hour or so. |
