Well I went and swicthed to flats

I got some free D'Addario half rounds 6 months ago and put them on my #2 bass. Damn it I liked them so much I just went and put DR flats on my #1. I really like the tone. Don't feel I lost any high end clarity. What is a little different is the feel. It will take some getting used to. There's a little more abrasiveness? that is messing slightly with my timing on some parts I've been playing for years. Is this going to bother me for long?

You will adapt. The fingers do not roll off of flats as quickly as rounds so that just has some getting used to.

To me GHS precisions flats, Chromes, and other flats are slick, and rounds are less smooth, and offer more drag or resistance to movement. Guess it depends on the person.
You did not ask, but I carry a little bag of food grade, coconut oil which is semi-solid at room temperature.
In the unlikely event my sweat etc, causes stickiness, I rub a little on my fingers, and flats are slippery then. Too much, and it's like driving on ice.

I switched from rounds to flats a couple years ago, and haven't looked back. I love the way they fit into our band's mix.

I was persuaded by a great tb thread started by Sundogue.

I use a Blitz cloth ("String Care by Blitz") to get rid of any dragginess.

Turns out the best flats for me are La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass.

I like chromes. They're smooth as silk after about an hour of playing. Fenders/Daddarios I've noticed have a little funk on them at first. I know DR's are hand made, so that may have something to do with the roughness, I noticed that as well when I used DRs and Rotos.

A buddy has Chromes on his bass. I dont know if it was because of it being a 5er with a B string but I could really feel a big difference between them and my GHS P flats. My P flats feel slicker. Just a preference thing. I like how the the P flats feel. Chromes are great though. Love that fat flatwound B on my buddys bass looks like a 3/16 solid steel rod.
