In your opinion, what are the best rounds after they have lost their zing? Are there any rounds you have tried that would have been fine basically forever?
Some rounds, it seems, go dead and they are awful. Some just mellow and stay there forever.
What's your experience? |

The stainless steel roundwounds that I have found to keep that bright zingy tone the longest is Dean Markley Blue Steels. The second best I've found are DR Hi-Beams. |

I have recently moved to D'addario Chrome flats and digging them

My fav round bar none is the Thomastic Super Alloy though. Best over all tone of any strings I've tried - and I've tried a bunch. To my ear - they have more body and less zing out of the box, They sound a lot like a broken in Boomer or Rotosound Swingbass and they stay that way a long time. There is a very, very short wear in period. Like 30 mnutes and then they settle into what they're going to be for a long time.
I get about a year out of them on my main round wound player. I tend to use TI Jazz Flats on my other main player. I always take 2 basses, 1 with rounds, 1 with flats.

Not as "zingy" as rotos but sound great for a long time--LOTS cheaper---I just clean them with a little bit of ZIPPO lighter fluid on the corner of a wash-cloth every couple of days.. |

They're nice strings, lots of definition, they're starting to mature and mellow out now.
Very nice strings, I got them for $20, they'll deffinately last me until the end of the summer, who knows mabey even longer! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
