What brand of flats have red wrapping.

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought a bass from a board memeber that came with flats with red wrapping.
Just replaced them with Fender flats (same gauge 45 - 95) and am not as happy with the sound.
As I rememeber the red silk was only at the tuner end; any ideas?

LaBella 760FLs have red silk only on the tuner end, but they are not 95-45.

TI Jazz Flats

The Fender flats are high in tension. The TI Jazz Flats are low tension. They do sound very different, and feel even more different.

TI Flats are the best (imo). Mine are on their 4th year. Love 'em!

Peace,
Joe

LaBella 760FL have red wrapping on the tuner end, nothing on the bridge end.

I noticed La Bellas wrappings change from set to set. Some of them have gold wrapping (at least the light gauges do). Red is probably the most common silk wrap though so it could be several different brands.

The Sadowskys have silver silk wrap which I love because they look great on any bass!

Thanks fellas
Just remeasured with digital calipers and actual diameter was .104 to .044 which is closest to Labella (Labella says ..043)

Any thoughts as to string tension / boinginess when comparing Fender, Labella, RotoSound, Chromes, and TI

Of course it will kill me to use TI's as it's for a used SX Jazz; then again, I just installed Lawrence pups and once I find the right flatwound they will stay on a long time; was never one to change round wounds all that often on other basses anyway
BTW, love the Lawrence pups; will submit a review shortly
