That said, I have found Pirastro Flexicors (not Original Flexicors) to repond well, be easy to play and have a nice arco tone. The Original Flexicors are a bit less mellow on tone but are OK. Have used Helicore Arcos and while A and E are powerful and have good tone the D and, especially G, tend to be scratchy when played open. Did ndot like G much at all. Tried Thomastik Spirocore Medium Orchestra and was totally disappointed. Hard brash tone. Couldn't believe these are represented as an orchetra string. |

I'm now using DR Lo-riders in nickel. |

But recently on the advise of the recording engineer that we're working with I tried a set of Ernie Ball strings and they're pretty good too. I think they may have a little more bite to them and last a little longer than the D'Addarios - but in all honesty, if i we're blindfolded I probably could not tell the difference so since I can get the 2 pack of D'addarios for less $$$ I'll probably stick with them. |

If we're talking about rounds, I'd have to say DR.

The instrument has the final say. Cheap strings may sound good on a high dollar bass, and vis versa. I use Ernie balls for Musicman, DR's for Modulus and D'adarrio for Fender.

I had been using Ernie Ball Reg Slinkys or D'addario XLs prior to that and had also tried GHS and Rotosound Swing Bass. I could not believe how superior the DRs sounded, so aggressive and bright w/o being zingy and they don't chew up my fingers. I'll never use anything else. |

Did I just misunderstand your comment? I don't know what strings or hearing aid for that matter that you use, but both could use some changing. Why do you think people change strings anywhere from between every show to every few weeks?
The string material, the thickness of wire, the structural design, the number and size of the windings, the overall gauge, the stressing or de-stressing, even the silk to a very small part have to do with the tone that comes out of the string.
Lets not start talking about the bridge, the nut, the wood, shape, design, etc. of the bass...
