What causes strings to feel "sticky"?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got some custom stainless steels from JustStrings.com -- they play and sound GREAT, but I notice that they feel just like...sticky, I guess. Like if I did a slide it would feel really resistant to letting me do it.

How would you guys recommend me remedy this...? Just have to get used to it?

My D'addario flats for my fretless did this too, but I just put some rounds on it that don't. Just trying to understand what element/variable of the string does this.

Stainless steel often feels rough like it's "Grabbing" your fingers... That's one reason folks like nickel...

It rather depends on the strings. Could be some goop on the string... try a cleaning with a soft cloth.

You should try half-rounds if you think the SS strings you're playing feel "grabby"

You will get used to it. A few days of steady playing will accustom your fingers to the feel.

Stainless steel is just less smooth to the touch, unless it is polished, than nickel plating.

Try Finger-ease......I've used it for years here in the south where it's very humid most of the time. It works for me.

i've found that roundwounds roll off of my fingers...as opposed to flatwounds that "grab" at my fingers....just me though
