What colour coated strings on a Mike Dirnt P-bass
Hi all was going to try some coated coloured strings for my Mike Dirnt P-Bass just for the fun of it. It's the standard 2 tone sunburst (so no red in the sunburst), white pick guard, rosewood neck. It's the Mexican one from about 2008.
What colour do you think I should use that would go well with the bass. Also does anyone know the difference between the DR neon strings and the DR dragon skin strings?
By the way I'm from Australia and we spell colour with a "u" in it instead of color. Weird hey?

dragon skin is the same coating as neons just no color. I vote orange for your bass though.

DR white neon

Dragon Skins are coated stainless steel with no color.
Neons are coated nickel in various colors. Dragon Skins will be brighter sounding. Neons will be brighter looking.

Here's a pic of the standard Mike Dirnt p-bass
Hope this works. I'm a newbie here so haven't got my head around the pic posting yet. My Mike Dirnt p-bass actually has a added jazz pickup near the bridge and a hipshot detuner.
Like what some are saying about the black and white. The other colours might be too much?

Using my legendary microsoft paintbrush skills, I came up with this:
The white neons kinda work with the white pg.

Actually, after seeing the photo, I think it would be too much to add coloured strings to it, even black ones, as the sunburst and white 'guard already are very bold, so just stick with 'normal' colour strings unless you also change the 'guard, but that is one of the things about the bass that makes it unique.
Also, the only time I have seen neon strings that have worked was neon pink ones on a black fender aerodyne jazz bass, where the usual white band was actually coloured pink to match the strings. Would be nice to see a black aerodyne jazz with the normal white banding and have matching white strings like.

I'd have to agree that funky colors wouldn't look right (to MY eyes) on a sunburst bass. But the white kinda works...
I think black or white would look good!

Some more of my expert graphic designing for your viewing pleasure. I think good ol' metal colored strings are the way to go.

Thanks guys especially 3234718 for the graphic design skills!
You might be right. Maybe the wrong bass to try with coloured strings.

Black looks alright, IMO... has sort of a tapewound vibe that suits the vintage P look well.
I think black looks great.

Start with the black tapes and then maybe add in other black stuff like pickguard, hardware, etc...
