What difference Rotosound Swing 66 vs. DR Hi Beams ??

Haven't tried either yet.
From what I read -
The Hi Beams are more smooth, less tension.

But what about the sound differences? Are DR more scooped and Rotos more middy (piano like?)

What about sustain and output?

Which will sit better in a recorded ( not live) mix where bass is used finger style and with chordal work??

The biggest difference is the nature of the overtones- the Rotos have a distinctive clang that no other string has, giving them a unique voice beyond the brightness or amount of scoop.

Otherwise I find them similar in the amount of lows, highs and mids, and maybe output, but the latter is hard to compare unless you are really testing it specifically.

Both will sit in a mix splendidly, and will cut through or blend just as well depending on your attack and EQ.

The DRs will stay bright much longer, and are more smoothly polished.

Ok v interesting - so you mean the Rotos have that "piano" or bell /tubular like clang because of richer harmonic content?

In glad to hear both will mix in properly. As I said ill be doing finger style / chords what worried me about the DRs HiBeams is the idea of "scoop" - as my bass isn't very middy and has a treble/bass cut boost EQ, so I fear getting lost in a mix ?!

Rotos definitely have the most harmonic content out of any string I've ever tried. Hi-Beams I find to be more modern sounding with extended highs/lows and less grindy mids.

The biggest difference is the tension. Hi-Beams have a round core which gives them less tension and more flex, Rotos have a classic hex core with higher tension. I have to watch my action and technique carefully with roundcore strings or else I get a lot of fret noise, Rotos I can smack the sh*t out of and it just makes them sound better(IMO).
