I recently got a used Sadowsky M5-24 and it needs strings. I was wondering what others are using on their Sadowsky's that they like and what gauge. I typically use light gauge, nickel, round wounds.
The string that are on the bass have the different colored beads, so I assume they are D'Addario unless someone else uses colored beads to indication which string is which. |

The GHS and D'Adderio's I was not as fond of. |

I tried the Sadowsky Bright nickels in light gauge. The B string was OK.
I had a set of DA XL 170s on the bass for a while. I think i liked them better. Bass is a RV5.

I replaced them with D’addario nickel XL 165 and liked them much better. I just tried a set of Sadowsky bright nickel, which I’m likening but I think the XL’s a bit better.
Next I’m going to try a set of DR ss low riders. |

Sadowsky steels
Sadowsky nickels
Elixir Nanowebs
The Elixirs are on there now. They sound noticeably different in the highs than uncoated rounds, but I'm liking 'em a lot. Another nice feature is that they last: they've survived a number of brutally hot and humid outdoor gigs. I'm seriously thinking of putting another set of Elixirs on my Sadowsky when the current set wears out (might not be for a long time, though!) |

Low riders 'feel' smoother but the Sads have a tapered B which I like. I find myself swopping between these two depending what I can get at any given time.

I had tried the Fodera 5's steel and they sounded amazing on my sadowsky 5. A strong and beautiful B that sounded better than anything I had tried. Another good string is the D'Addario Pro Steels. Similar when used after a few hours of play. I have used low riders on it and they also sounded great (And Hi Beams, DR coated and fat beams). For the price its the Pro Steels, For a fat sound and articulation the Fodera's, For a good long lasting string the DR's. Im not a fan of one person at fodera's, possibly why i shy from the fodera's but they do make a good bass string.
