What gauge for drop c?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all!
I wanna play some stuff in drop c and i was thinking of getting a set of gauge 45-105 (DR Hi-Beam Stainless Steel Bass Strings45-105: Amazon.co.uk: Musical Instruments). I heard these strings give a good tone for metalcore, as they don't have a very metallic and buzzy sound. However, will the gauges be low enough for drop c?

Circle K strings: Here's the TB thread...

... and their website:

There's lots of good info in the TB thread about drop tuning.

You'll be best served with something between a .120 and .125 at C - my suggested set is;

.124 .082 .061 .045 .031

You pointed to a 4 string set. Just drop the lightest string from the above if you're a 4 string guy.

^ Good advice.
105-45 will be very floppy in drop C. I recommend building a custom set from singles using gauges similar to the above or a 'drop tune' set from Circle K Strings: vStandard Drop-tuned 4 Strings. The .130 set will give you a medium tension.

105 works fine for me in drop C, they seem to work alright for drop B as well
