Flatwound Gauge

D'Addario Chromes "regular light gauge" 45 - 100. These were the only flatwound strings, and only this gauge, that the store had in stock. Somewhat expensive at 3979 Yen, (about US$36) but I am completely satisfied.

I used to buy the biggest cables I could find. For years I always equated "bigger = more tone". But, one time when I needed a new set, I use Fender 9050s most of the time, the only set in the store was a set of MLs, and I had usually bought the Ms. The MLs worked just fine. The next time I needed a set, I tried the Ls, and they worked just fine. They also were easier on my fingers and hands, and easier on my bass. They still had the same great tone of the Ms, the same great feel, but a little less tension. I don't bother with the big cables anymore. Just not necessary.

For my fretted Precision I'm liking the LaBella 760FL set (043-104).

For my fretless basses I like the TI Flats, which only come in one gauge (043-100).

I like these sets because they sound great and feel great with just about the right amount of tension.

I love having a lighter gauge string on my fretless. I have 40-95 D'Addario Chromes on my jazz. On my other bass I like to have a heavier string. I can't quantify what I like about it, but thats how it goes down.
