By far, 45-105 is the most popular gauge.

I'm suck between 45-105 and 50-105. I like 45-105 because it feels comfy. 50-105 becuase of more "tone"(at least i'm under the impresson that there's more tone, here-say), but higher tension :-(

Is that true? thicker gauge = more tone? like.... thicker/darker?

D'Addario XL220's. I'm a .040 kinda guy. In general I like a lower-tension string.

I think it's true (but you probally allready guessed that). I've only tried different gauges with Blue Steel, but the 50-70-85... sounds fuller than 45-65-80... (105-128 on both for e and b). Dunno if it sounds darker, but there's more solid tone, and the sound is less hollow in the upper mids. The feeling is a matter of getting used to it. Choose the sound you like, and the rest will follow. It did for me, and I went from soft feeling roundcore hi-beams (45-125) to hexcore Blue Steels (50-128).

Amen, though a .80 A string doesn't bother me.

.32-.40-.60-.80-.100-.130

If I had that choice. But most six string sets don't come like that. Though the inbetweens are what is on my 4.

115 baby!

Got a GHS set dunno what the G string is . . . who cares . . . but I'm hitting 115 on the E string. . . baby oh baby what a feeling of power.

. . . and I have an appointment next week with the hand surgeon. . .

Makes me happy to see that the Jamerson Labella signatures are 110. . . except that Lord Jamerson had a light touch and me I really attack the suckers. . . oh well. . .

Peace
Sean

I play 35 - 95 rotosound swing bass. No idea if anyone else uses such light strings, I tend to incorporate a lot of vibrato and occasionally bend strings (Hope to replace doing this with slides when my fretless arrives) so they feel a lot better. Plus they have a great snap, even if they lack some thump.

I use rotosound flat 77s .105. I have always used rotosound roundwounds but decided to try something different. I am surprised how much I like the sound, I always thought I preferred the bright piano-like tone of roundwounds.
