What Gauge Tapewounds for my SX

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to put a set of tapewounds on my SX SPB-57 fretless but I'm not sure of the guage. I know they put D'Addario Flats on at the factory, but what gauge? The E string looks quite a bit thinner than the .045 of the D'Addario XL Chrome E string. I have a set of Rotosound RS 88 Tapewounds and the E string is .065, but it doesn't look like it'll fit in the nut.

What gauge could I use that will fit in the nut on the SX? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The E string is .065? I think you're mixing up the E with the G-string? Anyways, with Tapewounds you don't have a choice of gauge within the same brand. The most 'standard' gauge tapewounds you can get are from Status-Graphite. They're the best tapewounds I've used and are a standard gauge so they'll fit into your existing nut. The other tapewounds I've tried (Rotosound and LaBella) have been bigger and had more tension (which I don't like).

I love my Status-Graphite Tapewounds and would highly reccommend them

Typo. Sorry about that. The G string is .065. The E string is .115.

I also forgot to mention it's a short scale bass. Status doesn't make short scale tapewounds.
