What are good stings to get for the particular sound I want?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was wondering what type of winding, metal, and brand to get for a six string bass dropped one step across all the strings. I tend to play metal music with my fingers so I need something with a quick attack that is able to punch through the guitars in my band.

I am currently using ernie balls on my 5 string and their sound just sounds a little to dull to me. My main goal is to get as close as I can to the sound of a pick while using my fingers. I'd like a tight quick bright sound. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

highbeams have a round core and lowriders have a hexagonal core.
highbeams are more flexible and lowriders are stiffer.

Hi-beams are roundwound, Lo-Riders are flatwound. Flatwounds are better for mellower, less edgier, jazzier tones. Roundwounds are awesome, and the Hi-Beams are particularly, but not overly, bright, edgy, and perfect for anything that's not soft, but good for ballads.

My suggestion is Roundwounds.

Lo-Riders aren't flatwound. They are wrapped around a hexogonal core-as opposed to Hi-Beams, which are wrapped around a round core.
