Question What kind of flats are these? Blue silk

Sign in to disble this ad
Really curious what kind of flatwounds the bassist for The New Mastersounds is using. They have medium/dark blue silk wrappings but I can't tell if they have wrappings on the ball end, which would indicate them being Chromes. Here are two pics where you can see the wrappings. Warning, second picture is very large.

I'll third Chromes ... super longs (with long scale through the bridge, the silks are much closer to the nut).

Edit ... I'll 4th chromes!

I have no idea about the strings but the decal in the second picture isn't a real Fender decal.

Sadowskys, maybe, Chromes are a lighter blue.

Sorry, but no. The decal is too small and "Precision Bass" was under the Fender until the late '60s. And then it was moved to the right and was very large.

Also the "Contour Body" decal was only on J basses, never on Precisions.

Probably Chromes, though; I remember the silks on mine looking more like a royal blue, instead of navy blue.

Jamerson La Bellas. Not Chromes.

Chromes are much lighter blue that that, and the long gauge Chromes wouldn't wrap that far up on the posts.

I'm gonna second the Jamerson's. The silk is too dark for Chromes IIRC.

A AND G strings look grey like Sadowsky's. E and D look like LaBella FM or FS, I forgot which.

They look like Chromes to me too. The color of the silks can vary... I have two precisions with Chromes and one's silks are significantly lighter than the other.

Fenders

They may be Fender 9050's.

Not that I have lots of experience with 9050's but here's why I think they are.
I just purchased an almost new Fender CS Jazz with flats installed at the factory. They look exactly the color in the photos. They are great strings. I just ordered a few sets of 9050's, so I may know soon. Only thing is, apparently Fender has changed there source for strings and I'm not sure whether I'll get the old versions or the new.

cheers,
BB
