What kind off bass strings are these? Help!

Hey everyone...

Just nabbed a 1986 ric that had these strings on it, and they're AWESOME.





They're exposed core, red wraps at both the top of the string and tat the ball (seems strange) and kind of spherical balls.

Anyone ever seen these before? Apparently this bass was in a closet for like... 6-10 years, so they're at least that old... any ideas?

Those are the old Superwound PSD strings (made by Rotosound). Rotosound makes a set now called RS99 Piano String Design that are exposed core but you have to put the ball end on yourself. They are stainless steel roundwounds just like the Swingbass 66 sets.
