| No idea, but I couldn't get them off fast enough. I restrung it with D'Addario flats and never looked back. I'm not fond of rounds to star with, but the hollow bodied Viola especially sounds good with flatwounds. That and flats last years if you take care of them. I've also read about how good it sounds with tapewound strings, but for the life of me I can't find a store in my area that has them in stock.
I'm not saying the stock strings are bad (haven't used them enough to tell really), just that the "swooshing" sound and harsh edge of round strings sounds out of place to me on a hollow bodied instrument. To each their own though.
Great bass by the way. It's my main gigging and recording bass. Your stepmother will love it.
