What kind of strings did I play?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a new bass strung with Rotosounds coming in a few weeks, and I think I might want to swap them out when it gets here. I played a bass last week and the strings on it felt really nice. They were a slightly dull grey, darker in color than most new SS strings i've seen, soft (almost slick), and were low tension. The sound was not exceptionally bright- more thumpy than zingy, good midtones....

I have already contacted the bass company, and they don't know what kind the factory uses in bulk (whatever is cheapest that week I guess).

My research thus far tells me that I am looking for Nickel and not SS, med gauge, possibly XLs, or DR sunbeams...

Does it sound like I am on the right track? Is my description just worthless? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Not a whole lot of info to base this off of, but my guess would be the DR Sunbeams. Give 'em a try. They are a great string and a lot of people really like them.

Good luck...
