I recently discovered the magic of flats on a p bass. I previously had stayed away because I disliked the feel, but now that I've gotten used to it, what can I say, but wow. So how bout you guys?

P basses sound great with any strings... I prefer rounds for pickstyle playing, and flats for fingerstyle. With a pick, you can get that famous hollow P grind. With rounds you can get the deep thumpy vintage tones.

I like rounds for the rocky growl they can give on my P Bass

I love TI Jazz Flats on my P-Bass. I also use a small piece of foam under the strings right up against the bridge. Good sounds.

My 79 Precision has rounds and my Ebay P (built from parts from Ebay) has flats.

I havent played this much with picks before

D'Addario Chromes or Fender 9050M's ... both good sounding flats (especially the Chromes) and give a P a great deep tone, whether picking or fingerstyle. Slapping sounds different on flats but I still like the tone.

I have a '72 Precision strung with La Bella Jamerson flats. It has enough bottom to crush cars.

My cheapo P-Bass clone has heavy gauge Rotosound rounds and the new one, when it arrives, will be strung with heavy gauge Rotosound flats... this is so I can play punk/rock on one and blues/reggae on the other...

my Peavey Millenium J type currently has light gauge Rotosound rounds on it...

You may have gathered that I like Rotosound... well it also helps that I can get them in the local shops... La Bella and other "exotic" brands I would have to order via the internet...

ps, where's the "both" option and the carrots option?

For classic 60's sound, there are no strings out there that beat Labella Deep Talkin' flats. And you never have to change flats - just leave them on unless one breaks.
