If I can afford it:
Elixir .110's

If i'm on a budget:
DR ER50 Hi-Beam 50-110
DR-Rockers .110
EBS Northern Light Heavey Bass .110

It's hard to say which budget-strings are best, but nothing beats Elixir's IMHO.

Also, I have to have .110's on, it just feels right for me

Nice.
I do not know what kind of strings are currently on this bass since I baught it used.
But I do have a set of Fodera Diamond Series Nickel strings that I wanna throw on there.

I also have a pair of D'Addario XL Regular Light Gauge Nickelplated strings.

I'm worried that the D'Addarios will give me a little bit of fret buzz being that they are a light gauge and I tune this bass 1/2 step down.

Have any of you tried the D'Addario Half Rounds?

My Precision wears the LaBella 760FL set, they've been on the bass now for about 2.5 years and are still great!

I've got D'Addario Chromes on my MIJ P-bass, and Ernie Ball Slinkys on my Franken-P with a Jazz neck.

Elixirs....I always end up coming back to them. They last forever, no annoying squeek, and plenty of lows, mids, highs and cut.

I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about Elixir. Think I will give them a shot.

D'Addario Chromes or XL's, depending on flats vs. rounds.

After years of rounds on my 78 P-Bass with Ernie Balls
or Daddario XL'S I've finally gone back to flats with a set
of Daddario Chromes. Holy Crap! What Killer Tone!
These are amazing flats as they have the fat fundamental
of the note yet enough sweet highs that they still sing!
They sounded so good I got a set for my J-Bass and I'm still
able to get a Sly and the Family Stone old school slap tone.
The Chromes really shine on my P-bass and I'm loving
that fat fundamental and punchy tone of these strings.
Yeah, you don't get the piano wire zing but I'm digging
less finger noise and even the high notes have more heft
and clarity without raspiness imo. I recommend the Chromes
if you want to try flats at a resonable price but are worried
the tone would be too thuddy compared to rounds.

  • d'addario chromes ECB81 (flatwounds 45-100) on standard P with rosewood board and the 51 RI with maple board. These thing last for years!
  • d'addario EXP170 (coated roundwounds 45-100) on P Special (P/J) or the standard uncoated EXL170 if money is short. I like the extra bite the rounds give the Jazz pup.
