What kind of strings are these?

When I bought my Geddy Jazz (used), it came with a nice set of strings already on it, and I liked their sound so much, I just left them on. Now I have to change them and want the same thing. Problem is, I don't know what they are! They have a bright sound (probably stainless steel?), roundwound, light or medium (definitely not extra-light). The identifying feature is that the silk wrapping on both ends is black on all strings.

So, the question is -- who uses a light or medium stainless steel roundwound set of strings with black wrappings on all strings? And what brand are they?

I really like the sound of these strings as they are, but unfortunately, the G string went bad. I was playing a gig Friday night, and in one of the songs halfway through a set, something sounded wrong. I checked my tuning, and the G string had gone flat by almost 1 1/2 steps. I thought it was strange, because the Geddy NEVER goes out of tune. Well, I finished the night without incident. But at practice Saturday, and again last night, I noticed a "dead" spot on my G string, between the 3rd and 5th frets. After practice, I checked it out carefully. No buzz, no fretting out. What I discovered was that the string lacked sustain on the fundamental note when fretted in that area, but the harmonics still rang out. Kinda hard to describe.

So I'm thinking one of the windings in the string must have broken around the 4th fret or something Friday night. Does that sound reasonable? I never noticed this problem before then.

Fender Japan puts those strings on every MIJ bass they send out. As far as I know, they are not available in the US. It's a shame, they are really nice.

Fender's website says they are regular Fender strings, but the US Fender strings are nothing like the strings that come on the Geddy, '51, etc. The closest I have found to the MIJ Fender strings here in the US are DR High Beams, 45-105.

That surprises me. The bass I bought used was a 2002 manufacture. I guess the reason it was in such good shape was because it hardly got used!

Thanks for the info -- I'll probably order a set of those as replacements.
