What kind of strings are these :p

Sign in to disble this ad
well i just got back from a show and there was another bass player there with his bass and it had a nice tone but i noticed when i was in the croud before i got up that his strings were black and i just figured that they were the colored ones but when i got up on stage he offered me to plug into his amp because it was set up and ready to go so i did and before this he showed his strings and they were super soft!! i didn't know there were such things its like they were made of rubber or something, they felt great!

im just wondering do these affect sound in a bad way?

i cant remember exactly what he said but i think he said ultra soft??

Coated strings of some sort? I know the ones you are thinking of, I have felt them also, they are kinda rubbery and really soft & smooth? I dunno what they are but man are they cool!

Maybe coated nylon strings of some sort(odd cause I'd find them more in place with a acoustic bass but you can still put them on), or DR black beauties.

Sounds more like a set of black nylon tapewound strings, than coated strings like DR's, ect. Tapewound strings are quite smooth and soft feeling on the tips of your fingers, great for fretless work.

The only time I have felt them was on an electric-upright. Is that what they are normally on???

Naw, they make tapewounds for your standard 34" electric bass as well.

Love how the blurb markets them towards fretless players, but the jazz on the front is fretted.

Ah forget the marketing blurb, sure they're fantastic fretless strings, but they also work great for fretted basses. Just think of them as a more interesting version of flats. That don't cut the note sustain so quickly, and have a more interesting mid texture.

LaBellas and Status are my favorite.
