To at least lean this toward some science, let's go from this framework:

Brand:

Fretted or Fretless:

Playing Style:
1. Aggressive
2. Laid Back

Frequency:
1. Weekly (or more) rehearsal and/or gigging

2. Monthly rehearsal and/or gigging

3. Occasional use

Life:

And if you took them to an end, what signaled the change?
(unraveling, tone, feel?)

As a groovy/funky laid back player that digs into strings weekly(or more), the only longevity issues came with rotosound trubass88's was changing strings. |They never busted on me when playing, only when re-stringing.

I love these strings and wired a ground to my j-bass' vintage pickup cover (neck pickup) to be able to ground out without having to hold onto my bridge while playing.

If only there were a single wire between the tape windings to let this happen. It would be a clever innovation. Please send me a few sets if you're using my idea!

La Bella
Fretted
Playing Style: somewhat more aggressive than laid back
Frequency: Monthly rehearsal and/or gigging
Life: Tone was good until I broke one. At that point I decided to switch to something with more tension. We were tuning to E flat and that was just to floppy. I now use Chromes which, after their broken in, work very well for me.
