What size strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Im fairly novice... got my bass set up (Fender Jazz) w. medium action..

What gauge strings are best. I can make adjustments based on the gauge. I got 110 Fender Nylons right now. Entirely too big.

What is the average. What do MOST players use on a 4 string?

I'd say move down to a set with a 105 E string, and if that's too heavy then you can go to a 100 and so on. There's no really 'standard' that everybody plays but most companies (it varys) as 'medium' is 45 to 105.

I had tried some GHS Boomers 105s, but thought them a bit heavy. Would 100s be too light for a good bass sound?

Some people get a great bass sound with 95s, but I can't. So basically you just have to try them. I think a light touch, and a loud amp, let's you get away with a lot.
