Most popular gauge, just from years of observing, is 45-105.

Manufacturers put 45-100 on their basses for the most part. Fender puts 45-100 7250ML strings on their Precisions, except for the American ones, which get 8250 strings.

My favorite Precison Bass string? Rounds--DR Sunbeams 45-105. Flats--Fender 9050ML.

You can use whatever gauge etc you like. Some prefer light gauge as in 40-90. The most common usd gauge is 45-105 though some prefer 45-100 or 45-102. I used to use 45-102 as fave gauge when I lived in the uK where individual strings for making own gauge set was easy to find. Not so easy in american stores. I use 45-105 now. Fave strings are Rotosound swing 66 and the new DR neons in green. If you use diff gauge then is on your bass now you will prob need to tweak the truss rod adjustment a tad. Diff brands strings of same gauge can also create need for small truss rod tweak in some cases. Best way to find fave strings for yourself is try a variety and listen listen listen. If you plan to downtune your bass you will prob want to go a gauge or so higher then reg used for std tuning. There is no magick gauge or even brand to use on a P pup bass. Same applies to every other bass out there. I like roundwounds. I dislike flats for their sound and feel. Though some prefer flats for both.
