What stings should i try?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to replace the rust spotted strings on the Epiphone thunderbird I got off craigslist this weekend. I want to try something that sounds really punchy and bright for the music I play (hardcore/punk). I've heard Ernie Ball Hybrids are good as well as DR Lo Riders. I tune in DGCF. Any other strings that are good?

With your tuning I would try some DR DDT. Just a suggestion

If you wan't punchy, I would say some Dunlops. They are punchy, defined, and low tension.

I looked up those DDT strings. They sound pretty cool. Might have to pick up a pair.

EB strings suck, you will have to replace them at least twice as fast as the DR's.

+1

i had to get a set because i snapped a string practicing right before a gig, and the place didnt sell DR, so i bought some EB slinkys... and immediately noticed they werent even close.

the EBs did, as mentioned above, seem to kind of die right away, making harmonics barely audible. thats one of my benchmarks im looking for in strings. six month or year old DRs still sound better than six day old slinkys, and harmonics still ring clear after you break them in.

Cool! I've played on black beauties before and they're a dream. I'll check out some more of the DR series and steer clear of EBs.

Get a .112 to .118 on bottom for D tuning.
