What is the string for me?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have tried a few but nothing that really made me feel comfortable. I have heard good things about DR but don't know if I should spend the money. I just decided I don't like rotosound...they sounded kinda thwangy. I do think I prefer 50-110 over 45-105 though. It just seems richer. I am getting ready to buy an Ibanez SR500 next month and I want to get it ready to play asap.

Thanks in advance.

Try D'Addario pro steels, they're very reasonably priced, have a piano like tone and are very bright. Toying with these now 'cause they're so affordable. I've used DR mostly in the past because I like that brilliant, balanced tone. Good luck to ya!

Try some Dunlops I just got a couple of sets of SS Lights (40-60-80-10) from zZounds for $10 a set. Put a set on my VM Jazz and it sounds like a completely different bass (in a good way), and I was able to lower my action considerably. I'm sold on them. Many here on TB sing praises of the Dunlop Nickels which I will have to try in the future. All I can say is that these are the set of SS Rounds I have played to date. Very impressed.

Oh and I think I heard the guy who runs the Dunlop string factory used to work for DR.

Also your Ibanez should play well with factory strings. They come with Elixers. I have a BTB and an ATK that have Elixirs and they sound great to me. I see no need to change until they wear out.
