But seriously, try a few different sets, Whatever you think sounds the best. I just recently switched from DR Hi-Beams which were great to Fender 9050m flats, which are better for what/how I play. |

| | | | Steve Harris playing with flats, but I have heard that string is changing almost every time he plays. And this is to the sound of the new strings. |

Flats generally sound pretty different when new than when worn. Many love the sound of worn older flats... Some love the sound of new fresh flats...
But new fresh flats come at a cost... but there is a resale market for used flats if you are ever in the classifieds.. |

They have a nice bright sound and they seem to last fairly long before going dead. But "for metal", really, it depends on your personal preference. I've used these strings to play jazz as well as heavy rock stuff; I just change my tone knob settings and modify how I pluck the strings to get the sound I want. If I need the bright trebly sound it's there.
BTW, you are today's TB Metal Meme award-winner. Congrats!

| | | | I play thrash, and personally love the sound of some dead roto 66's. I'm currently using the DR Neon strings. Great visually, but more importantly, they have an absolutely killer sound.
For flats I've also used chromes, roto Jazz 77's, and the Steve Harris signature flats.
Of the flats, I preferred the 77's, they had this infectious thump and growl that sat in the mix so well. Something about the chromes was just off for me. Having gone from the jazz 77 to the chromes, I can say that I greatly preferred the rotos. The chromes were also way too clanky for my tastes. The SH set just had a ridiculous amount of tension. I never quite understood what people meant when they said it was like playing "bridge suspension cables" until I tried these.

| | | | Well gentlemen ... I play thrash metal. I play with fingers. I usually use GHS and now i want to try something new. I hear good reviews for RotosounD, DR, D'addario and Ernie Ball. I would like to hear your experiences of the above strings and which ones are in your opinion the best for music i play. |
