What strings am I using?

About five years ago I decided to try some flats after playing Blue Steels "forever". I wasn't planning on switching to flats permanently, I just wanted to try flats.

Went to my local music shop and just bought a set of one of the two brands of flats they had. I remember one being Fenders, but as I have never been a fan of Fender strings, I bought the other one. But I didn't keep the envelopes or the box, so I really don't know what brand the strings are.

Anyway, I really liked the strings so I just kept them on the bass and now they've been on for about five years. Have no intention on changing them now, but I wanted to buy some extra strings in case one of the strings break.

Did a little research on the net, and found that Chromes have blue wrappings on both ends, so I ordered a set. When they arrived I realized that the Chromes have multi-colored ball ends, while my old ones all are "gold".

The Chromes look like the old ones, but of course they don't feel the same as there are five years of greasy fingers between them.

So have Chromes changed? Did they use to come with gold colored ball ends? Or are my old strings a different brand? Tensionwise they feel almost the same.

I always buy strings from the "big" brands, so the strings are not some cheap strings from the discount bin.

It makes sense that I could have bought a set of Ernie Balls.

Have tried to find a picture of EB flats, but haven't found any. So do the EBs look like Chromes but with gold ball ends, and a slightly lighter blue wrapping?

Yeap, they are like you described, actually rumor is that D'Addario makes the EB Flats.

It'll be EB flats for life then, cause they really make this bass sound good (and right), and are supercomfy to play.

Thanks!
