I play a lot of blues, I use flatwound right now but before I actually used some tapewound nylons, and they were perfect. Very smooth tone, it was great.
But that unfortunately isn't an option in the poll haha.

I use flats. Even so, you can EQ your bass differently & get a great blues thump from rounds as well. Just make it stop sounding piano-like by dropping the mid range. Oh......and lose the pick.

Probably nickel plated roundwounds for a darker tone. I have flatwounds on a couple of basses, but they're not very versatile. The nickels still give you a darker sound, but also the versatility to play more styles of music.

I have used both and both work for the Blues. I take a nickelround strung Bass if I walking into a group I have never played with before. If I think flats would work better I bring a flatwound strung Bass the next time.....If I feel like coming back that is.
