Hey all!

Well I'm support for a local band and the bassist needs new strings. We're both new to this whole thing and we have a few simple questions:

1. Like what are the string gauges that come standard on a Hoffner Violin?

2. He's looking for a medium sound, what strings would you suggest?

3. We purchased Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Strings (see attached), has anyone used these?

Thanks!

Whatever they are, I'm sure they're flatwounds. Ok, not 100% sure, but I'd be surprised if they were roundwound. The thing with strings, it's a personal preference thing really. The set of slinky's pictured in your post seem a bit heavy, but maybe that's a good thing with a short-scale bass.

The cheaper Hofner Icons and Contemporary series come with cheap crap rounds, but I don't know what the expensive ones come with. Ernie Balls are fine, but that set you got looks like long scale, and with a Hofner, it's better to get medium scale. Some like them better with flatwounds, too, but I've used rounds on a Hofner style bass and it sounds good to me.

The Eff is a "medium sound"?

Lots! Hofners speak well with just about any string. It's all about the player and what the player prefers (how they can milk what they want from whichever setup they got going on).

EDIT: looked at your strings again. You really want to put 50's on a Hofner? Hey, If that's what yer in to but seems a bit too heavy for a hollowbody.

Not too bassy and not too treble. Something in between, more towards bassy though.

We had to return those strings and get a different set from Fender. They were too long in the end x.x

Thanks all (:
