Question What Strings Do You Use?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just curious to see what everyone else plays. I have used the Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 50 - 105's on my 4 strings and the 45 - 130's on my 5 strings as long as I can remember.

Got some DR Black Beauty Heavy's on my MusicMan SUB.

LOVE THEM. The color, the tone, the tension...it's perfect.

Amen. I use them on my Peavey Millenium and they're great.

Depends on the bass, really...

* On my Precision and my fretless I currently prefer Tomastik-Infeld Jazzbass flats, they are expensive but the sound really good. I have bought a pair of LaBella Deep Talkin' flats for my fretless now, can't wait to check em' out! The Fender strings that came with the Precision also sounded really nice on it.
* My Warwick FNA Jazzman have been fitted with DR Lo-rider nickel wounds for the last few years, I've never looked back on those.
* Lo-rider nickels for the Jazzbass as well, but there may be better strings for it out there. Perhaps I should try the stock-Fender strings again?

GHS Super Steel Contact Core

I've been trying them out and they're nice. They have the clarity of Circle K Strings (which I've been using for the past year) but are a little more mellow.

D'Addario Chromes .45 - .100 on my Fender P. Took them a couple of weeks to start sounding how I wanted them too, but now they sound amazing. Well, good enogh on their own but incredible in the mix.

Love D'Addario Pro Steels, they're probably not as bright as you think, but don't come in a .120 or .115 set which is what I want! D: D:

Gotta use stupid nickels.... hahaha

Do these growl more than regular strings? I was thinking of trying some sort of contact core string.

I use Elixirs on all my basses, it's not necessarily my ideal tone but I sweat a lot and can't really afford to replace $50 strings every two weeks. But I do like them when they break in after a few days.

When I get the urge for flatwounds I throw on a set of La Bella flats.

But if money was no object I personally would go with R Cocco's, love the way those sound and feel.

Was a bassically lifelong Rotosound Swing 66 user since the mid 70's. With occassional use of dean markley blue steel, GHS boomers, and Ernie Ball slinkies. But have switched to DR Neons now for main strings to use. Same qaulities I loove with rotosound swing66 with a tad more low bass focus/difinition and slightly brighter sound but with the right kind of treble rather then the annoying type most brands Ive tried have for me.
