Hi beams. With the plucking position so far back I really like round core strings.

I use big Hi Beams on my 'ray. 135-105-85-65 (C-G-C-F). It growls like a beast.

I've been using SIT Rock Brights Nickel on my StingRay 5.
I mostly play with the in single coil mode. Kind of a Jazz Bass sound. This is the one SIT set I've tried and they rock. They're really bright for nickel and last a long time. The use a hex Swedish Steel core like Rotosounds. I don't know what Swedish Steel is but, I've tried every string and I think I'm going to stick with these for some time.

I have used SIT rock bright SS in the past great strings, nice and tight feeling. The SS was hard on my skin. I should try the nickel ones as you said.

Lebella FM760 or Ken Smith Rock Masters. The dynamic range of the Sterling with the Labella flats is unsurpassed by anything I've played. From barely audible to as hard as I can pull. No matter how much I dig in, there's always more.

The 45-100 set is called "regular slinky", isn't it?

When I use EBMM strings I like the hybrid set. Its funny I love slinkys on my P-bass but not so much on the sterling.

No, the Regular Slinky set is 50-70-85-105.

But the 5-string Regular Slinky set is 45-65-80-100-130. Go figure.

I never under stood that ether. Plus I thing most use 45-65-85-105 as the standard or "regular set"

Regardless, EB Regular Slinky's sound great for funk/rock. For something a little more refined, I found that Hi-beams work great. I have also had good luck with Diaddario XL's and Half Wounds. I never put flats on (for very long) on this bass when I had it.

Saxnbass is the new owner of my old Sterling.
