What strings does Ibanez use?

Sign in to disble this ad
About three months ago I bought an Ibanez SR505. Seems like nobody knows for sure what strings came on this bass and I love them.

For starters, they feel like they have a coating on them. Here's the other factor that may sound familiar to some. The low B string is taperwound on BOTH ends of the string and the E, A, and D strings are taperwound ONLY on the end that goes into the tuners and NOT on the ball end.

Very comfortable tension too. Not too much or too little and they still sound very good.

If anybody knows who makes these strings and what the set number is I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

According to the Ibanez reps on their official forum, some basses come with Elixir, and some with D'Andrea strings. No, that's not a typo.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I've heard both before. Just wish I knew for sure which strings I have. If the strings are one or the other I wish the websites would be a bit more informative with thier spec's about the ends being tapered or not.

Our SR535 came with Elixirs, so I'm guessing that a 505 would be the same.

So did the strings that came on your bass sound like what I've described mine to be, as far as the taper's?

most basses that are new in the box come with a tag for the brand of the strings, usually telling you that they are the finest strings in the world.

Can't help there, sorry - I hated the feel of them and pulled them straight away. Don't think we kept them.

I don't think they're elixer's

I currently have a set of elixer's on my bass, and the low B is NOT tapered on the ball end, so that sounds wonky.

The only coated string that i've played which is tapered on the low B and none of the other strings on the ball end is Cleartones. But I absolutely hated everything about the Cleartones, particularly the low B, which really sucked. So I highly doubt those are what you have on it.
